Armoury Bank Motor Works, Ashton

Started by: ashtonman01 (213)

Anyone know anything about Armoury Bank Motor Works in Ashton (which was behind Ashton View nursing home)?. The reason I brought this up is because I have two old b/W photos, one I think was taken circa late 1940s, and the other was taken sometime in the early-mid 50s. They were taken on a Sunday church walking day, and in the background you can see part of the building for Armoury Motor Works and a sign visible. But on the later photo the sign is still there but the name has been removed. Had the company closed by the 1950s?.

Ashtonman01 there are various businesses still on Armoury Bank from lawn mower repairs to spray company for motor vehicles. There was part of it used for a taxi firm has their yard(I don't know if that is still there) Long time since I was up Armoury Bank

Well I'm talking a long time ago now, long before my time, but I would've throught someone here would know about this place, obviously it's been long gone, I've been round that way lots of times, just wondering if anyone knew anything about it and its history.

The sign in the photo read:
ARMOURY MOTOR BODY WORKS
(Holland & Cliff)
PHONE 7264

Around the edge of this sign written placed diagonally and in capitol letters were the words:
CABS
VANS
FLATS
COACHES

I'm sure someone on here will know more.

I do not know anything about it, but do recall my dad had some gas welding done to a lorry there.

I think that was in 1953.
